is a tool that allows blind and visually impaired users to read any document
in Adobe PDF format. The tool converts PDF documents into simple HTML or
ASCII text which can then be read by a number of common screen reading
programs that synthesize the HTML as audible speech.

Cue &
Review, Recording Service is a Scottish registered charity and a member
of the Talking Newspaper Association Of The United Kingdom. The charity
provides recorded magazines on cassette tape format to young blind and
partially sighted people throughout the UK. The charity provides news and
information in a magazine format, recorded onto tape. In this way it is
providing a similar services to that which young sighted people receive,
the choice of a variety of popular and interesting subjects in a magazine
format. While no charge is made to the listener for the production of this
service, we do encourage our "readers" to become voting members of our
charity. A minimum donation of One Pound is asked for.

Known as an American hymn writer and poetess, she wrote over 9,000 hymns
during her life. in her day, she was considered by most people to be the
greatest writer in America. And what was one of the remarkable things about
Fanny Crosby, apart from being a very talented writer, She was totally
blind. This is an excellent archive of some of her work, the site is still
growing as more of her works are collected on this website. You will truly
enjoy reading her great works.

Guide Dogs for
the Blind Association, (GDBA), UK. This is an excellent site, it contains
information about the Guide Dog Association. I myself am a Guide Dog owner,
her name is WILMA. If it wasn't for the Association I certainly wouldn't
have my mobility which I have at the moment, they certainly do a great
job and this comes through with the training of our dogs. Also on the (GDBA)
site you can download the Forward Magazine which has excellent articles
about the Association and its members. I recommend this site very highly
because I am aware of the great work they do and I am thankful for it.

disorder.

FrameFree, They convert
any web page to standard HTML. Some vendors "improve" on their browsers
by adding non-standard HTML features. Web sites designed for a particular
browser with such features cannot be used by most of us using standard
HTML browsers. In most cases you would leave such web sites but once in
a while there is a website with frames that you really need to access.
The FrameFree Service makes it possible for you to access "framed" web
sites using your standard HTML browser. When you go to the site select
the FrameFree Service. Select the appropriate order form and specify the
URL of the "framed" web page. They load any web page you want, convert
the frames to standard HTML, and E-mail the converted web page to you.
Once you have it stored on your disk, you can use it like any other web
page and you can explore the "framed" website.

House for the Blind, has introduced Louis, the Database of Accessible
Books and Materials for People Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired (formerly
called Carl et al). Named as a celebration and continuation of the work
of Louis Braille, who originated the now-standard tactile reading code,
this co-operative database provides bibliographic and location information
for books and materials in braille, large type, recorded, and computer
disk formats. These materials are available from 200 agencies across North
America.

Braille, is a kit that allows dot matrix printers with no hardware
modifications to print texts in real Braille in a quick and simple way.
it will be easy to produce texts in Braille. All it takes is a personal
computer, a dot matrix printer and the kit. Small texts can be produced
in a matter of minutes. Furthermore, no knowledge of Braille is needed
the system automatically translates the original text (which can be in
any language that uses the Latin alphabet) to its final representation
in Braille. well I certainly think the companies that make Braille embossers
will not be too happy with this little invention, it certainly sounds unbelievable
but I hope it will be made available shortly. The inventor of this system
is Guy Perelmuter a young Brazilian.
