• DeafBlind New Zealand arose from the need seen in the New Zealand Foundation for the Blind, for a separate Society run by DeafBlind people themselves.
• They became an Incorporated Society in January 1989, and have gone from strength to strength.
• They strive to bring the needs of there members to decision-makers in New Zealand
• They have adopted the Helen Keller Document on the rights of Deafblind people as there philosophy statement.

• They also have a magazine called SEE HEAR, which is widely distributed both in New Zealand and overseas and keeps there members up-to-date.
